For travel and tourism to Nepal, tourists must hold a valid passport and a valid visa. The Department of Immigration, Government of Nepal has issued the following guidelines for making a visa application for people intending to visit Nepal for tourism. Travelers to Nepal must formally apply to the embassies and consulates in their countries for the purpose of obtaining a tourist visa. If you are already in Nepal and you need extension in your visa for tourism, you can apply to any of the following Immigration offices in Nepal:
Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu
Kakarvitta, Jhapa (Eastern Nepal)
Birganj, Parsa (Central Nepal)
Kodari, Sindhupalchowk (Northern Border)
Belahia, Bhairahawa (Rupandehi, Western Nepal)
Jamunaha, Nepalgunj (Banke, Mid Western Nepal)
Mohana, Dhangadhi (Kailali, Far Western Nepal)
Gadda Chauki, Mahendranagar (Kanchanpur, Far Western Nepal)
Visa Fee
Single entry/Multiple Entry Tourist Visa Fee - Tourists entering Nepal for the first time in a visa year can obtain Single Entry tourist visa for 60 days upon payment of $30. This visa fee covers one year (Visa Year = Jan. - Dec.) However, tourists who require multiple entry tourist visas can do so by paying the additional amount of $50 for the same visa period.
Extensions in Tourist Visas
Tourist can obtain a 120 day extension in their visa by applying for tourism visa extension at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu and Pokhara Immigration office. A 30 day extension can be granted to the tourists intending to extend the period of stay in Nepal. The maximum duration of tourist visa, however, is 150 days.
Late Fee & Penalties
Tourists who fail to apply for an extension before the expiry of visa granted for tourism are liable to pay the following late fees.
Late Fee of $2.00 or equivalent in Nepalese currency (per day) for the first 30 days.
Late Fee of $3.00 or equivalent in Nepalese currency (per day) for the next 30 days i.e.: 31 to 90 days.
Late Fee of $5.00 or equivalent in Nepalese currency (per day) for more than 90 days.
