Foreigners planning to travel and tourism in Thailand must obtain Thailand visa from the Consulate General or Embassy of Thailand in their countries, except for the nationals of countries which are exempt from Visa.
Visas issued by the Thai Embassy or Consulate General of Thailand are generally valid for the period of 3 months. Thai Visas with the validity 6 and 12 months are also issued, depending on case to case basis. Period of stay, however, is generally limited to 60 days in case of tourist visa and in case of transit passengers the period of stay must not exceed 30 days. For non-immigrant visa the period of maximum stay is 90 days. Applications for extension in period of stay can be made at Immigration offices in Thailand.
List of countries exempt from Thailand Visa
Nationals of countries listed below are exempted from Thai Visa if they wish to enter Thailand for tourism purpose.
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bahrain, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Peru, Philippines, Portugal, Qatar. Singapore, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America, Vietnam Thailand Visa exemption does not apply to persons who are issued status of Alien Nationals by these countries.
Thailand Visa on Arrival
Nationals of Bhutan, China, Cyprus, Czech, Estonia, Hungary, India, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Maldives, Mauritius, Oman, Poland, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Slovenia, can obtain Thai Visa on arrival.
Thailand Visa for Business OR Investment
Non-immigrant Thailand visa for the purpose of engaging in business or investment is issued to nationals of all countries who are willing to enter Thailand for the purpose of Business or Investment. They must apply for Non-Immigrant Thai Visa (Category-B)
Thailand Visa Category “B-A”, Business Visa is issued to foreign national by the embassies in their respective countries Thailand Visa Category “B-I”, Investment Visa is approved by the Board of Investments, Thailand on the basis that the produce will be benefiting Thailand.
Thailand Work Visa
Such persons should contact the office of Foreign Workers immediately upon arrival, and apply for the work permits. They are liable to pay income tax accordingly.
Dependents of such foreign nationals who hold Thailand Work Permit can visit Thailand on a Non-Immigrant Thailand Visa and can stay for a period of 90 day to 1 year.
