If you are a mountain climber, Taiwan is definitely a place you should visit. Approximately ⅔ of Taiwan is rocky mountainous ranges, with peaks exceeding height of 3,000 meters (9,900 ft). The highest peak, YU Shan, is about 3,952 meters (13,042 ft). Taiwan has 150 rivers and large streams. The most prominent rivers include Choshui and Kaoping.

Minerals (especially gold, silver, copper and coal) are produced in Taiwan. Among forest products, the main resources are hardwoods and natural camphor. Recently natural gas and petroleum have been discovered.

The average daytime temperature in the summer, May to September, ranges between 27° - 35°C (81° to 95°F). The average daytime temperature in winter, December to February, is 12° to 16°C (54° to 61°F) with snow falling on the highest mountain only.
