Tourist areas provide convenience and easy access to entertainment areas. Areas with facilities for water sports and entertainment are appreciated greatly. This is why Sri Lanka is one of the main tourist attractions in South Asia. It is an island that provides places on the coast with ample opportunity to have a good time.

Resorts are usually set up in the coastal areas in Sri Lanka because visitors can be provided with a greater opportunity for sports on the beaches and at sea. Examples of the coastal areas where there are many resorts are Jaffna in the north, Mullaitttivu and Trincomalee on the north east coast. Batticaloa situated on the east coast is an ideal place for vacationing because of the resorts there.

In the west there is Mannar, Negombo and Colombo. Just around that area is Mount Lavinia. This is an interesting place for those who like the sight of breathtaking mountains. You can even climb this mountain because there are no restrictions. The area itself is such that it will captivate you and keep you rooted; you will feel compelled to wander about the area searching for interesting sights.

In the south is a string of places that are popular with tourists. These are all places that have ideal resorts and fantastic views. These places include Ambalangoda, Hikkaduwa, Galle, Weligama, Matara, Tangala, Hambantota and Tissamaharama. Beyond Tissamaharama is a very green area on the southeastern part of Sri Lanka called Yala West. Moving up towards the east, you will find Arugam Bay which is another nice place to have a vacation.

Some of the interesting places inside Sri Lanka include places that are towards the southern area. These places include: Adam's Peak, Nuwara Eliya, Mount Pidurutalagala and Ella. Kandy is also within their vicinity and is also a beautiful place to check out. In the center of Sri Lanka are Dambulla and Sigiriya. Just east of them is a very green location called Polonnaruwa. In the north, there is Anuradhaoura and higher in the North is Vavuniya. West of Anuradhapura and touching the coast is another very green area called Wilpattu National Park.

There are routes that can take you from one place to another in Sri Lanka. These are ones that can help you reach your destinations by bus or taxi. Buses are commonly used and there is no shortage of them. Since Sri Lanka is not a very large country, it is convenient to travel around exploring the different areas. While you are here you can actually manage to explore the whole country and check out the major locations. However, you will probably have more fun if you explore the areas slowly because you can spend a great deal of time in one particular area of the country and not get bored.
