Manila has been one of the most attractive places over the years. Historically it was a victim of colonial rule, and in more recent times it is host to many visitors that come year regularly. Among the many things that could keep you occupied in manila, visiting places is an interesting way to learn about the place. Below are some brief descriptions of places that you should visit. In order to get to these places, you could ask your hotel guide or ask a taxi driver or whatever transport you decide use.
The Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Fort Bonifacio
The Manila American Cemetery and Memorial is a reminder of what happened several years ago. It stands as a record of history, featuring World War 2, and the remains of the 17,000 individuals that perished because of the war. It is a peaceful place that helps you reflect and consider the many lives lost here.
Chinese Cemetery
The Chinese Cemetery is the next place that you should visit while in Manila. It was established in 1850's. Two people, Lim Ong and Tan Quien Sien, had established this cemetery for the Chinese that were not allowed to be buried in a Catholic cemetery. The area covers 54 hectares of land, and the cemetery has paved paths and large mausoleums that add to its beauty.
Chinatown
Chinatown is the best place for goldsmiths, home altar accessories, jewelry stores, Chinese artifacts, mah-jongg sets, Chinese herbs that are used for medicines, etc. I would recommend a ride in a callers, which is a horse-drawn carriage. It can take you to the important places within China Town, such as the more important streets like Ongpin St.
Seng Guan Temple
The Seng Guan Temple is a Buddhist temple. On its second floor it has a mural that depicts Buddha’s life. One the third floor 10 thousand Buddha statues line the walls.
Santa Cruz Church
The Santa Cruz Church is also a place recommended for visiting. It was constructed in 1608, and destroyed during the Second World War. It was reconstructed in 1957.
Binondo Church
This was built in 1596, and like the Santa Cruz Church was destroyed during the Second World War. However, it was rebuilt in 1972. After reconstruction, the outlook had changed significantly, as only the octagonal bell tower and few other foundations of the original structure remain.
Manila Hotel
The Manila Hotel is appreciated as a spot for site seeing because of its age and beauty. It is known that General MacArthur live in the suites of this hotel with his family. This was before the Japanese invasion of Manila.
Intramuros
The Intramuros is also known as the "City within the walls." This was built by the Spanish in order to protect themselves from attacks, and just like the Trojans they confined themselves to living within the walls. Only the Spanish and Mestizos were supposed to live within the confines because it was for their safety. However, during the Second World War, it was destroyed.
