           Places to visit in Bohol

Bohol is one of the most beautiful places in South East Asia when it comes to scenic beauty. It has lots to offer you throughout your stay. Bohol is basically known for its beaches and fun that you can have going to them.

There are also the popular chocolate hills that are known far and wide. In addition to this there are also many hotels situated near beaches in order to let you have easy access to them while you are here.

In addition to the hotels providing you convenience through their location in this regard, there are others that are placed well enough to also allow you access to business and shopping areas as well. Though there maybe many hotels placed in this way promoting your stay for beach entertainment, there are also other things to see in Bohol.

Since Bohol has a rich history attached to it, there are several historical places to see as well. Few of the historic things and places to see while you are in Bohol are briefly described below. One of the places that are worth seeing is the Rice terrace in Lila. These terraces are a lot smaller in size as compared to the ones in North Luzon. It is situated around 25 km east of Tagbilaran.

Another interesting place for one to visit includes the Hinagdanan Cave. It has an underground swimming pool, and the path to the swimming pool I well lit up because of two big holes in the cave. One of the most valued churches in Bohol is the Dauis Church. It has a well at the end of the alter, making it unique as there aren’t many churches that would have something like that so close to the alter.

At a distance of around 7 Km Southeast from Tagbilaran, there is another church called Baclayon Church. It is believed to be the oldest stone church in the country and was build by the Jesuits in 1595. Its bell-tower that was erected in 1824 is about 21 meters high and is well designed as well.

In addition to these churches described here there are more. Loon Church is another one north-west of Maribojoc, situated at a distance of about 25 km from Tagbilaran. Another place with religious symbolism is Fatima Hill in Carmen. It is a pilgrimage location, and people come here on every 13th day of May. Another pilgrimage site like this is Ilihan Hill in Jagna.

Other places that are good to visit include Mt. Carmel Hill in Balilihan, which is a historical site and limestone tower. In Punta Cruz, nearby Maribojoc is "Punta Cruz Watchtower". It was erected in 1796 by the Spaniards. Jagna is another place that is well worth visiting. It is a busy and clean little place 60 km east of Tagbilaran. In this place there is also a church, with ceiling frescoes that makes it quite elegant.

Some of the other places to visit include:

  • Caingit Beach
  • Alona Beach on Panglao Island
  • Punta Cruz Watch-tower (1796)
  • Ceiling Frescoes in the Loon Church (1753)
  • Basketware in Antequera Market
  • Inambacan Falls
  • The Legaspi and Rajah blood compact memorial
  • Ilaw International Centre
  • Baclayon - the oldest town in Bohol
  • Baclayon church and museum(1595)
  • Tontonan Falls and river trips
  • San Pedro Church (1602) and its painted ceiling
  • Badiang spring, waterfall and swimming pool
