Visiting Rajasthan is a unique experience as it brings together a blend of colors, culture and tradition. Set in the midst of history and past, Rajasthan is now on its road to progress and adaptation of modern ways of life.

 

Rajasthani Culture

Like the variations of the land, the culture of Rajasthan is also comprise of a wide spectrum of brilliant colors that has been painted by a number of settlers that ranged from ancient Indus valley to the Muslims and the Rajputs.

All helped in shaping the culture of the land and in making its heritage. Hindi is the official language, but the languages commonly spoken are Rajasthani, Marwari in the west, Jaipuri in the east, Malawi in the southeast and Mewati in the north. However, some people can also speak English.

     

Rajasthani People

Rajputs were the rulers of Rajasthan in the past and ruled over most of the state. They were good people and were also generous. In the past, caste system was followed in the areas which determined their life and professions, however, now in modern times, this concept of caste system has changed and now people are free to choose the way to spend their lives.

Rajasthan Weather

As Rajasthan is a desert area, most of the time, its hot here. At night, the temperature drops and it’s chilly. The hottest months are from April to September while from June to September it is the monsoon season. People who visit Rajasthan for the first time should keep in mind the weather conditions and try to plan their trip in cold weather from November to February.

Rajasthan Shopping

Rajasthani textiles are famous for their dying and fabric painting as well as their embroidery. The women of Rajasthan are experts in embroidering different stitches. The craftsmanship of jewelry is renowned all over. Silver is more in use by the locals and is more affordable for a shopper, while high quality gold ornaments are also available. Precious and semi-precious stones are available in abundance which are sold according to the zodiac signs and the names of the gods.

Items carved out of wood in Rajasthan are also very famous the world over. Sandalwood carvings come in a range of many objects and themes. Jaipur and Jodhpur are known for their foot wear as well as for their leather goods.

What to wear in Rajasthan

Both the males and females dress in the customary dresses in bright colors, according to their status, economy and climate. The traditional dresses are sari, dhoti, achkan, and banda. However, people also wear shalwar-kameez, pants and skirts.

Due to the hot weather conditions, cotton and light clothes are preferred. However, people also wear western clothing but such people are small in number. When coming to Rajasthan, jeans and pants with long sleeved shirts should be preferred to avoid exposure to the sun and mosquitoes.

Traveling around in Rajasthan

Traveling around in Rajasthan is not very difficult. Jiapur is the main airport in Rajasthan. Palace on wheels is the luxury tour train for people who want to visit the whole of the province. Apart from that, camel rides are also available to travel in the deserts. Taxis and cars on rent are available but charges should be fixed before hiring a taxi.

Health services in Rajasthan

Medicines and drugs of all kinds are available from the local pharmacies but before buying, their expiry dates should be checked. Don’t drink tap water. Always use mineral water. There are recommended hospitals in all big cities of Rajasthan that provide good service.

Night life in Rajasthan

In the resorts and hotels, musical shows and puppet shows are organized which are reflective of rajasthan’s culture. In all big cities like Jaipur, Udaipur and Jodhpur, special shows are arranged for the guests that include Kalbelia dancers, music and festivals all around the year.

Rajasthan Business

As most of the people in this province are not very educated, they are engaged in one profession or the other that has been in their family such as leather work, making handicrafts, shoe making, and embroidery. The young people who are now getting education are engaged in hotel jobs and office work. People also work in government offices.
