           Things to do in Goa

With its breathtaking beautiful beaches, gentle breeze, never ending shore line, coconut trees and carefree lifestyle, Goa is the ultimate place for holidaymakers. With its fairs and festivals, nightlife and beaches, Goa is an enchanting paradise and invites one to come and experience its wonders. There are a number of things to do in Goa, be it fun related to the beaches and water or tours of the state. Goa has everything to offer to a tourist.

Windsurfing

Windsurfing is a unique blend of surfing and sailing which needs the surfer to adjust his strength and balance according to the patterns of wind and water. Windsurfing is an exciting experience for one who has perfected himself in the skill of the game. The Zuari estuary at Dona Paula Beach is an excellent spot for windsurfing in Goa due to its calm waters. Here, trained instructors are employed to help people.

Dinghy Sailing

People who are scared to windsurf but still want to try their hands at water sports, Dinghy Sailing is for them.

Dinghies are available for hiring at Cidade de Goa and Taj Holiday Village. The dinghies are about 15 feet in length and can accommodate up to four people. Sailing in a dinghy is as much fun as windsurfing with two sails and side decks to sit and can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

Scuba Diving

Scuba Diving is gaining popularity in Goa now, with scuba gear and instructors available at Dona Paula jetty or from Aqua Marina in Panjim. Scuba Diving can also be used as a means of sight seeing. Also, water skiing can be very interesting for people who like to explore things.

Bird Watching

Goa is a paradise where all kinds and forms of birds can be spotted. The bird life in Goa is exquisite and one can have immense pleasure in bird watching with the rarest kind of birds found in Goa. Due to its fair climate and rich vegetation, there is an abundance of birds here. A large and diverse population of birds survives due to Goa’s varying habitat that ranges from open forests and dense forests which are ideal for migrating birds.

Parasailing

For speed lovers as well as high fliers, Parasailing is the thing to do. The Taj and Oberoi hotels both offer equipment as well as instructors for this entertaining sport. There is a rope about 300 feet long attached to the harness at one end of the boat while the sailor is on shore in a harness. When the boat takes off, the sailor takes just a few steps and is lifted into the air. This sport is very exhilarating. Also for a ride, water scooters can be used.

Swimming

The most common thing to do while one is in Goa is swimming. As Goa is situated on the warmest ocean in the world, there is no end to the joys and entertainment one can derive from swimming. It can be enjoyed by people of all ages including the young and the old as well as the rich and the poor.

Cuisine of Goa

If one is in Goa, the cuisine of Goa should not be missed. Goa’s famous pork Vindaloo is the local specialty cooked in hot red chili peppers and vinegar. Other Goan specialties include Xacuti which is a chicken or meat dish, Chourisso, spicy Goan sausages, Sorpotel, a pig liver dish and Prawn Balchao as well as sweet dishes such as Dobol and Bebinca. Fresh sea food is very popular in Goa such as prawns, crabs and fish cooked in the local style or in cheese and wines that are absolutely mouth watering. The local drink called Feni made up of cashew fruit or coconut brew is very famous in Goa. Alcohol is also easily available in all the restaurants.
